Merry Christmas to All…
December 25, 2008Tweet
I’m not sure what it is. The lights, the music, or the general (mostly) happy attitude that everyone seems to have around this time of year that makes me love Christmas so much. Whatever it is, it’s easy to say I’m obsessed (I hosted a twelve-hour show for the third year in a row this year all about it!) so I’m popping on this Christmas morning before the rest of the family is up to send my best wishes to the ‘net.
No matter what holiday you may celebrate- Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa (Festivus)… this time of year is extremely special for the world. It’s a time of giving, a time of joy and a time of wonder, regardless of location and regardless of age, regardless of race and gender. Today is irrefutably Christmas and I’m not going to wish you “Happy Holidays” this morning, because…
- It’s Christmas. Uh… yeah.
- No matter what you believe, you don’t need to celebrate the religion in order to partake in the spirit.
Let’s take a look at #2. Many Jewish friends of mine comment to me how much they enjoy seeing Christmas lights up on all the neighborhood houses (and I’m sorry for not being politically correct and putting up all white “Holiday” lights, but that’s another post). Dennis Prager, a radio talk show host of the same faith, played Christmas music for bumpers throughout his entire show these last few weeks, because he likes the music!
No matter what faith you choose to follow, what beliefs you hold (or lack thereof), this is a beautiful time! I can’t think of one major musician who hasn’t put out at least one Christmas album at some point, and there’s a reason! It’s great music! The TV specials are great, the decorations are great, just like the overall spirit of the season… great.
No matter what religion you choose (or lack thereof), part of the greatness of this season is that it’s got a “one size fits all” tag displayed proudly on the front. Who cares if you don’t celebrate the faith behind the holiday? You have just as much of a right as any to partake in the joy that it brings. That joy is a beautiful thing. Put on that warm and comfy sweater that is this season. Wear it! Share it! One size fits all.
Best wishes to you this Christmas morning and every morning…
- Dave
