Merry Christmas to All…

I’m not sure what it is. The lights, the music, or the general (mostly) happy attitude that everyone seems to have around this time of year that makes me love Christmas so much. Whatever it is, it’s easy to say I’m obsessed (I hosted a twelve-hour show for the third year in a row this year all about it!) so I’m popping on this Christmas morning before the rest of the family is up to send my best wishes to the ‘net.
No matter what holiday you may celebrate- Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa (Festivus)… this time of year is extremely special for the world. It’s a time of giving, a time of joy and a time of wonder, regardless of location and regardless of age, regardless of race and gender. Today is irrefutably Christmas and I’m not going to wish you “Happy Holidays” this morning, because…
- It’s Christmas. Uh… yeah.
- No matter what you believe, you don’t need to celebrate the religion in order to partake in the spirit.
Let’s take a look at #2. Many Jewish friends of mine comment to me how much they enjoy seeing Christmas lights up on all the neighborhood houses (and I’m sorry for not being politically correct and putting up all white “Holiday” lights, but that’s another post). Dennis Prager, a radio talk show host of the same faith, played Christmas music for bumpers throughout his entire show these last few weeks, because he likes the music!
No matter what faith you choose to follow, what beliefs you hold (or lack thereof), this is a beautiful time! I can’t think of one major musician who hasn’t put out at least one Christmas album at some point, and there’s a reason! It’s great music! The TV specials are great, the decorations are great, just like the overall spirit of the season… great.
No matter what religion you choose (or lack thereof), part of the greatness of this season is that it’s got a “one size fits all” tag displayed proudly on the front. Who cares if you don’t celebrate the faith behind the holiday? You have just as much of a right as any to partake in the joy that it brings. That joy is a beautiful thing. Put on that warm and comfy sweater that is this season. Wear it! Share it! One size fits all.
Best wishes to you this Christmas morning and every morning…
- Dave

Fall is here!
Posted Sunday, September 28th, 2008 5:56 pm by Dave Moyer
Starting to feel fall in the air here in Colorado! I’m ready for it. Since classes resumed at the end of August the weather has made me feel like it should be Thanksgiving or Halloween, so I’m excited that I’m no longer crazy and those holidays are actually approaching. (You’ll notice I’ve changed my background accordingly- what do you think?)
Leaves have already started to fall, though you can’t see it in this picture (of course). I saw Charlotte sitting over underneath the tree, opened up Photobooth and took this. Are you ready for fall? Wish summer would stay a bit longer? Just want to move on to winter?

I recently got a little email from Lorelle VanFossen with a few attachments. She, Liz Strauss, and I’m sure a few other people (thanks, and sorry I don’t know who you are!) ran around this year’s Blog World Expo with a little sign. Here was the result:
A.ma.zing. Thanks to Darren Rowse of Problogger, the Woopra guy (sorry again!), Tara from Lijit (you rock), Lorelle, Liz and everybody else who helped put this awesomeness together. I loved it, and so did Kym…

Podcasting: the best name?

Since it first started with Adam Curry and Dave Winer (or should I say Dave Whiner) a few years ago, the medium of “podcasting” has grown in leaps and bounds, starting to work its’ way into the lexicon of the average Joe. If you’re unfamiliar with the basic concept, podcasts are, in essence, audio files distributed over RSS feeds (Real Simple Syndication). Users can subscribe to these feeds in an RSS client or a client specifically designed for podcasts, often referred to as a “podcatcher”. Every time a new episode is added, the feed reader automatically downloads the show for a user to put on their iPod (hence the ‘pod’ prefix) or mp3 player, listen on their computer, or burn to a CD.
